40 Years at the zoo

I’ve been coming to the Houston Zoo with my family off and on since the early 80’s, I was probable 5 years old in one of my earliest photos. I never would have thought that I would one day join the HZI team let alone become part of a leadership as a supervisor for the Grounds and Housekeeping department. I owe my chance working here to my cousin Renee who worked in the Animal Nutrition Department. I have to say 3 of my most memorable moments was when (1) I got the chance to bath the Elephants right after started here in 2011 and was able to bring my daughters. (2) A picture with Jonah the sealion with my cousin Renee and finally my kiss with TJ the sealion!!! I’ve enjoyed many different experiences with other animals and behind the scenes tours. Oh and watching my oldest daughter (Felicia Burson) become a member of the HZI family is pretty cool! I’ve truly been blessed working at the Houston Zoo as it has become a second home for me.
