I have been going to the zoo since I was a little girl. I clearly remember walking around holding my dad’s hand and looking at the birds when I was about 3 or 4. He was always pointing out new things to me and we took our time learning new facts about what we were observing. My family would pack up our lunch and make a day of it. My parents were young and immigrants. They couldn’t provide my siblings and I much at the time so I hold these moments dearly.
This connection to animals has followed me my entire life and I now enjoy taking my kids to the zoo. My oldest loves finding things to bring to the swap shop, she could talk about bones, teeth and shells forever and the employees are always so patient and kind. I recently took my baby and she was so excited by all the fish, the seals and elephants. I can’t wait to keep those core memories coming in the future.
